Bridal Party Portraits

Your bridal party is composed of your closest friends and family, and capturing the dynamic and joy of this group is an essential part of your wedding memories.

Family Photo Session

Family photos are important, and we strive to make this session smooth and enjoyable.

Why the Family Photo List is Important

Creating a detailed family photo list is crucial for several reasons:

  • Efficiency: With a list, we can move smoothly from one group to the next without unnecessary delays.

  • Inclusivity: Ensures that no important family members or combinations are missed.

  • Understanding Dynamics: Helps us be aware of any sensitive family situations (e.g., divorces, remarriages, estranged relationships) to handle the session with tact and respect.

  • Less Stress: Allows you to relax, knowing that we've got all the important shots covered.

Preparation

Create a List

This is not mandatory, BUT if getting photos with everyone at your wedding is important to you. Then having a list for us to reference is crucial. Without one, we will do our best to cover everyone but we are outsiders and we don’t necessarily know your family dynamics.

Here's a list example of potential groupings:

Bride and Groom with Bride's Immediate Family

  • Parents

  • Siblings and their spouses

  • Nieces and nephews

  • Bride & Groom with Groom's Immediate Family

    • Parents

    • Siblings and their spouses

    • Nieces and nephews

  • Bride & Groom with Both Sets of Parents

  • Bride & Groom with Bride's Extended Family

    • Grandparents

    • Aunts and uncles

    • Cousins

  • Bride and Groom with Groom's Extended Family

  • Bride with Parents

  • Groom with Parents

  • Bride and Groom with Grandparents

  • Bride and Groom with Siblings

  • Bride and Groom with Entire Family Group

If You Prefer Not to Create a List

We understand that some couples may not want to create a detailed list. In that case, we'll do our best to capture generic family groupings, such as:

  • Bride and Groom with each set of parents

  • Bride and Groom with immediate families

  • Bride and Groom with grandparents

  • Bride and Groom with siblings

  • Bride and Groom with entire family groups

However, without a list, there's a risk of missing specific groupings that are important to you.

Providing even a basic list helps ensure we capture all the family members and combinations you value.

Understanding your family dynamics helps us navigate the photo session respectfully. If there are:

  • Divorced or Separated Parents: Let us know if they prefer to be photographed separately or together.

  • Step-Parents and Blended Families: Specify which groupings you'd like, including step-siblings or step-grandparents.

  • Sensitive Relationships: Inform us of any situations we should be aware of to avoid discomfort.

All information shared will be handled with the utmost discretion.

Consider Family Dynamics

Keys to a Successful Family Photo Session

Appoint a Family Wrangler

Choose someone who knows both families well (often a sibling or close friend) to assist us in gathering family members. They can help call out names and ensure everyone is present when needed.

Communication

We recommend notifying family members ahead of time about when and where the family photos will take place. This helps prevent delays and ensures everyone is prepared.

Send a Schedule: Include the time and location in your wedding itinerary.

Make Announcements: Have your officiant or DJ remind guests when and where to gather for family photos.

During the Session

Stay Organized

Follow the List: We'll read off the groupings to keep the session efficient.

Listen for Cues: Pay attention as we call out names and groupings.

Have Fun

Relax and Smile: We'll encourage natural expressions and interactions.

Embrace Candid Moments: Sometimes the best photos are the spontaneous ones between poses.

Be Patient

Allow Time: Family photo sessions can take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of groupings.

Enjoy the Process: This is a special time with your loved ones.

Special Considerations

Large Families: If you have a large family, consider prioritizing the most important groupings to keep the session manageable.

Cultural Traditions: Let us know of any cultural or traditional group photos you'd like to include.

Children and Elderly Family Members: We'll aim to schedule photos with young children or elderly relatives first for their comfort.

Ceremony Guidelines and Considerations

We believe in capturing your ceremony with authenticity and discretion. Our "fly on the wall" approach allows us to document moments naturally as they unfold, ensuring that the essence of your special day is preserved in a genuine and unobtrusive manner.

Whether your ceremony is held in a church or a unique venue, we are committed to highlighting the moments that matter most to you.

Typical Key Moments We Capture

It’s Important to let us know about any key moments that are important to you.

  1. Processional

We position ourselves in the aisle to capture the initial reactions and emotional exchanges during the processional, including the first look between the bride and groom.

  2. First Look Down the Aisle

Capturing the groom's reaction as the bride walks down the aisle is one of our specialties.

  3. Father-Daughter Handoff

We focus on the heartfelt moment between the bride, her father, and the groom during the handoff.

  4. Vows and Ring Exchange

Utilizing multiple angles, we document the meaningful exchange of vows and rings.

  5. First Kiss

We ensure this unforgettable moment is beautifully framed and captured.

  6. Recessional Kiss

We recommend a kiss during the walk back down the aisle as newlyweds, creating a stunning photo with your guests in the background.

Preparation and Setup

Video and Photography Setup Time

  • Video: We typically require 30 to 40 minutes before the ceremony starts to set up our cameras, check vantage points, connect audio sources, and ensure everything runs smoothly.

  • Photography: While photography setup takes slightly less time, some preparation is essential to capture the big moments effectively.

  • Coordination: We'll collaborate with your coordinator or venue to schedule setup times discreetly and efficiently.

High-quality audio is vital for your ceremony video. Here's how we manage it:

  1. Microphone for the Officiant

    • A small microphone is placed on the officiant, connected to a recording device they wear discreetly. This setup is solely for recording purposes and not linked to loudspeakers.

    • Note: Please inform your officiant in advance to ensure their cooperation.

    2. Groom's Microphone

    • A microphone is also placed on the groom to capture clear audio of the vows and other key moments.

  2. Backup Audio Sources

    • We aim for redundancy by tapping into the ceremony's audio system (if available) and recording music separately when applicable.

    • Coordination: Discuss with your DJ, church, or audio handler to facilitate this process.

  3. Music Recording

    • If live music or a sound system is used, we record the music on a separate track. Communication with your musicians or audio technicians is essential to cover all aspects.

Audio Recording for the Ceremony

  • Camera Placement

We discreetly set up cameras around the venue to capture every key moment from multiple perspectives without intruding.

  • Venue Considerations

Inform us of any specific traditions or elements unique to your ceremony. Your input helps us tailor our coverage to your preferences.

Ceremony Setup and Logistics

Whether it’s a grand entrance or a special exit, we want to ensure these moments are captured smoothly and beautifully.

Here are a few things to consider:

Ceremony Exits:
If you're planning a special exit from the ceremony, such as a bubble exit, rice-throwing, or another creative send-off, please let us know well in advance. These types of exits can create stunning visuals, but they also require some coordination, especially for video. We’ll need to make sure our cameras are positioned correctly to capture all the excitement and the reactions of your guests.

Grand Entrances:
Some couples like to make a grand entrance—whether it’s arriving at the ceremony in a special vehicle or walking down the aisle in a unique way. These entrances can be complicated for video because we need to coordinate multiple moving parts, so it's crucial to communicate any entrance plans long before the wedding day. This gives us time to set up appropriately and ensure we capture the moment from all angles.

Whether it’s an entrance or exit, clear communication is key to making sure we capture these moments perfectly. The more we know ahead of time, the better we can prepare.

Exits and Entrances

Unplugged Ceremony

Consider an unplugged ceremony to minimize distractions from guests' phones and cameras. This approach allows us to capture the best shots without interference and keeps the focus on your special moments.

Every ceremony is unique, and our goal is to capture it in a way that reflects your personal story. Open communication ensures we understand your priorities and can deliver a collection of memories you'll cherish forever. Please don't hesitate to share any specific requests or details with us ahead of time.

Cocktail Hour

We want to be transparent that we typically don’t capture a lot during cocktail hour. This time is often when we’re busy setting up for the next phase of your day or taking a quick break to recharge. Since we’re with you for the entire event, it’s important for us to have a moment to rest and grab a quick snack, as it’s a long day for our team.

While we can’t shoot continuously, we ensure that all the key moments of your day, especially those involving you and your guests, are covered.

Reception

The reception is where the celebrations truly begin, and we’ll be there to capture all the fun, laughter, and heartfelt moments. From your grand entrance to the final send-off, here’s what to expect during this part of your day.

Setup Time for Video and Photo:
Just like the ceremony, we typically need around 30 to 40 minutes before the reception starts to set up our cameras, check all vantage points, and ensure audio sources are connected. This preparation is essential for capturing all the key moments in the best possible way. While photo setup may take slightly less time, it’s still important for us to be prepared and ready before the reception officially begins.

Coordination with DJ and Venue:
The DJ and venue are often in charge of the overall flow of the reception, but it’s crucial that they communicate with the photography and videography team to ensure we’re available for important moments. We recommend letting your DJ and venue know in advance that capturing key moments, such as speeches, first dances, and the cake cutting, is a priority. It’s part of their responsibility to coordinate with us so that we’re ready when these moments happen. For example, there have been occasions when a DJ has started a major moment without informing the photo or video team, resulting in missed footage. To avoid this, it's best to establish clear communication, ensuring the DJ lets us know before significant events take place. This helps us capture everything important without missing a beat.

Grand Entrance:
Your grand entrance is one of the first big moments of the reception, and if you’re planning to do something fun, like a dance or a surprise, it’s important to make sure that it happens on the dance floor. While we try our best to capture the moment from the doors, there’s often a gap between the doors and the dance floor that can make it tricky to follow you if the crowd gets in the way. To make sure your entrance is captured perfectly, we recommend doing anything memorable—like a fun dance or a big surprise—once you’re fully on the dance floor where we can focus our cameras and lighting.

Key Reception Moments to Capture:

  • First Dance: We’ll capture every beautiful moment of your first dance, from the first step onto the dance floor to the final spin.

  • Speeches and Toasts: Speeches are one of the most emotional parts of the evening, and we’ll be sure to record the reactions from both the speakers and the couple. If possible, let us know who will be giving toasts ahead of time so we can position ourselves for the best shots.

  • Parent Dances: Whether it’s the father-daughter or mother-son dance, these are always touching moments that we’ll make sure to capture in full.

  • Cake Cutting: The cake cutting is a lighthearted and fun moment. Whether you’re planning a sweet and simple cut or something more playful, we’ll be there to get all the smiles and laughs.

  • Bouquet and Garter Toss: If you're including a bouquet or garter toss, we’ll position ourselves to capture the reactions of the crowd and the lucky recipients.

  • Dance Floor Moments: As the night goes on and the dance floor heats up, we’ll capture candid shots of your guests having fun, enjoying the music, and celebrating with you.

Lighting and Audio Considerations:

  • Lighting for Video: Our lighting is not only unobtrusive but can also add a decorative, ambient element to your reception. We aim for it to blend seamlessly into the environment, enhancing the mood and overall atmosphere. While we always do our best to keep the lights out of guests’ eyes, it's worth noting that everyone has different tolerances when it comes to lighting. However, we work hard to ensure the lighting adds to the experience rather than distracts from it.

We recommend that you inform your DJ in advance that you want us to use lighting, as it is vital for capturing the best quality video. Let them know that this is important to you so that we can balance your video needs with the atmosphere of the reception. We always minimize how much lighting we use on the dance floor, and if the DJ politely asks for an adjustment because they feel it's intrusive, we’ll happily turn it down to find a balance that works for everyone.

  • Speeches Audio: For speeches and toasts, we often use a separate microphone or tap into the DJ’s sound system to ensure clear audio. Please let your DJ know in advance that we’ll need to coordinate with them to capture clean audio for your video.

  • Audio Recording with Band or DJ: If you’re having a live band or DJ at your reception, it’s important to communicate with them in advance that we will need to record audio directly from their master output. Sometimes, especially with live bands, they may not be as familiar with working alongside a videographer, and they might be hesitant about having audio recorders placed on their equipment. However, this step is essential for ensuring that the speeches and other key audio moments are captured clearly.

We recommend letting your band or DJ know that recording high-quality audio is a priority for your video and that we’ll need their cooperation. A little bit of communication ahead of time can go a long way in ensuring that everything runs smoothly and that your video has the clear audio it needs.

  • Speeches and Toasts: Speeches are one of the most emotional parts of the evening, and we’ll be sure to record the reactions from both the speakers and the couple. However, to ensure everything is captured properly, it’s best to avoid using a microphone stand, as this can encourage people to wander while they speak. When the speaker moves around, it can be difficult to keep them in the frame, and the lighting may not be set up to cover these unexpected movements. We set up our lighting in advance, and having a fixed position for speeches helps us ensure that everything is well-lit and captured perfectly.

We recommend that the DJ inform anyone giving a speech, especially parents or key speakers, that it's best for them to stay in one designated spot while speaking. This way, we can map out the lighting and camera angles to guarantee the best possible coverage of these important moments.

  • Capturing Candid Moments:
The reception is full of candid moments that make your wedding day truly special. We’ll be constantly moving around, capturing all the little moments of joy, laughter, and fun as they happen. These spontaneous moments often make for some of the most memorable photos and videos.

  • Special Dances or Surprises:
If you’re planning any special dances, performances, or surprises for your guests, please let us know ahead of time. Whether it’s a choreographed dance or a surprise speech, we want to be sure we’re in the right spot to capture it all.

  • Final Send-Off:
If you’re planning a special exit at the end of the night—like a sparkler send-off or getaway car—we’ll be ready to capture the final moments of your celebration. Let us know in advance so we can plan for the best angles and lighting.

Night Portraits

One of the most magical times for photos and video is after the sun sets. Night portraits offer a unique opportunity to capture you and your partner in a dramatic and romantic setting. With the use of creative lighting, we can create stunning images and video that add an extra level of flair to your wedding day memories.

Why Night Portraits?

  • Dramatic Lighting: Nighttime allows us to play with lighting in creative ways, casting beautiful shadows or highlighting the couple with soft, ambient light. The contrast between the dark surroundings and our lighting setup can create an enchanting atmosphere.

  • Unique Atmosphere: The evening offers a completely different vibe compared to daytime portraits. Night portraits give your wedding gallery and video a sense of drama and intimacy, making them stand out.

  • Adding to Your Video: For videography, these moments add a cinematic feel, elevating your highlight reel with a sense of mystery and romance that daytime shots can’t always achieve.

We recommend setting aside a little time in the evening, possibly during a quieter moment at the reception, to sneak away for these portraits.

Not only will the results be beautiful, but the process itself is a nice break from the festivities, giving you both a chance to share a few private moments under the stars.

Sparkler Exits

A sparkler exit is a magical way to end the night, creating stunning visuals with all your guests lighting up the path for you.

While these moments look incredible on camera, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure it runs smoothly and is captured beautifully.

Key Tips for a Sparkler Exit:

  • Coordination: To ensure we capture the perfect shots, it’s important to coordinate this moment with your venue and planner. They can help organize guests and make sure everyone knows what to do when the time comes.

  • Sufficient Sparklers: Be sure to have enough sparklers for your guests, and ensure they are long-lasting ones (around 36 inches is best). The longer sparklers burn for more time, giving us plenty of opportunities to capture the exit from different angles.

  • Lighting Timing: Timing is key for the sparkler exit, as sparklers burn out quickly. We’ll need a few moments to make sure everything is ready—both the guests with sparklers and our camera setups—before you walk through. Once everyone is in place, we’ll guide you on the best timing to make your exit down the path of sparklers.

  • Safety: Sparkler exits can be beautiful, but safety is important. Make sure your guests hold the sparklers high and away from you and each other to avoid accidents. Also, coordinate with the venue to ensure the sparkler exit complies with their rules.

  • Clear Path for Photo/Video: It’s helpful to make sure the pathway where you’ll walk is wide enough and that guests are lined up neatly, so we have a clear view to capture you both as you walk through. This will allow us to get clean shots of you in the middle of the sparklers.

  • Capturing the Moment: We’ll be capturing both video and photos during this moment, so it’s important to take your time walking through the sparklers. This gives us a chance to get the best angles and capture the magic of the exit. If you feel comfortable, we recommend stopping halfway through for a kiss or a special moment—this adds a beautiful touch to your final shots.

Additional Details

Meals for the Photography and Videography Team:

Since we’re with you throughout the entire day, mealtime is one of the only opportunities for us to take a short break and refuel. It’s important to communicate with your venue in advance about what will be provided for vendor meals, especially if any of our team members have dietary restrictions (for example, some of our shooters may have gluten intolerances or be vegetarian). Having a nutritious meal helps us stay energized and focused, ensuring we can continue performing at our best for the remainder of the day.

We recommend asking your venue during consultations what they typically provide for vendor meals. While some venues offer something similar to what the guests eat, others may provide less nutritious options like sandwiches or leftover cocktail items, which can affect our performance. Clear communication with the venue about what you expect for vendor meals will go a long way in keeping the team feeling well and ready to capture every moment of your wedding day.

Table Shots

While we don’t typically go around photographing all the guests at their tables, we’re happy to accommodate this request if it’s something you’d like. To ensure it goes smoothly, we can coordinate with your DJ to create a "table badge," where we move around the room to capture photos of each guest at their table. This works best during the meal, as guests are more likely to be seated at that time, allowing us to efficiently capture everyone.

It’s important to communicate this with your DJ so they’re aware that we’ll need time to do this. Coordinating it during dinner ensures we don’t disrupt other parts of the reception or key moments like speeches and dancing.
